Allerdings sorgen die vielen Inseln f\u00fcr ein konfuses Wellenbild.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Erstmalig ist die Anfahrt etwas tricky. Bislang haben wir Buchen in Vanuatu einfach angesteuert \u2013 achte auf Korallen rechts und links \u2013 keine Untiefen oder Bl\u00f6cke versperrten die Einfahrt. Diesmal m\u00fcssen wir im Zickzack um Riffe navigieren. Navionics ist recht genau, zus\u00e4tzlich l\u00e4uft ein Satellitenbild-Overlay auf dem Laptop mit. Und dann sind sie da, die Meerjungfrauen. Ein halbes Dutzend Dugongs ploppt neben Atanga an der Wasseroberfl\u00e4che auf. Wohl kaum ein Tier wurde von der menschlichen Phantasie so verdreht wie der Dugong. Die alten Seefahrer machten aus der gem\u00fctlichen Seekuh die sagenumwobenen Meerjungfrauen.<\/p>\n<p>Wie kann man ein plumpes, r\u00fcsselnasiges Tier mit einer grazilen Nixe verwechseln?<br \/>\nVielleicht weil Dugong-M\u00fctter\u00a0 ihre Milchdr\u00fcsen im Brustbereich (unter den Flipper-Flossen) haben. Wenn sie ihr Kalb s\u00e4ugen, halten sie es oft mit einer Flosse umschlungen, w\u00e4hrend sie vertikal im Wasser treiben und den Kopf an der Oberfl\u00e4che haben. Nahe ans Boot kommen sie leider nicht. Als wir mit dem Kajak unterwegs waren, haben sie sich gar nicht gezeigt. Er notierte entt\u00e4uscht, dass sie <em data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"272\">\u201enicht ann\u00e4hernd so sch\u00f6n seien, wie man sie auf Gem\u00e4lden malt\u201c<\/em> und dass ihre Gesichter <em data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"360\">\u201eeinige m\u00e4nnliche Z\u00fcge\u201c<\/em> aufwiesen.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00fcr uns ist es ein riesiger Spa\u00df, die Tiere zu beobachten. Dabei darf man allerdings nicht einschlafen.
